Narendra Modi's mission - Swachh Bharat (Clean India)

By choosing Oct 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, to start his Swachh Bharat (Clean India) mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have taken a leaf from fellow partymate and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's book.




The idea to use the broom to good effect on Gandhi Jayanti was first mooted by Parrikar 12 years ago.
The 58-year-old technocrat, during his first stint as the first Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister of Goa, had announced a slew of decisions, some controversial, which included cancellation of Gandhi Jayanti as a government holiday and making government servants use brooms to clean their offices on the day for two hours.


"Gandhi believed in work and I want to begin the work culture on his birthday," Parrikar had said during his media interaction after he announced his innovative plan in November 2011.
This is not too dissimilar to Modi's Swachh Bharat (Clean India) announcement in his Independence Day address August 15.
Modi, in his speech in Bangalore on Tuesday, said that he would himself use the broom on October 2 and asked Indians to spare two hours every week to the sanitation drive to make India a clean nation.
"I am seeking alms from countrymen. In alms, I seek your 100 hours in a year. We will together launch a cleanliness drive. You give your two hours in a week. As you clean up your house for a guest, prosperity will enter our country if we remove all dirt," he said.


Modi had during his election campaign also spoken about the importance of cleanliness and backed construction of toilets all across India coining a trademark slogan "Pehle sauchalaya phir devalaya" (toilet first, temple later).
Media reports also suggest that Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth has instructed all central government officials to participate in Modi's cleanliness drive which starts on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who was himself a stickler for cleanliness.
In 2001, it was a circular by then state chief secretary Baleshwar Rai which dropped October 2 from the list of notified official holidays and instead re-classified Gandhi Jayanti as a "Clean Offices Day".


The circular also made it mandatory for all state government personnel to attend office and dedicate two hours between 10 a.m. and 12 noon to cleaning up their office premises in sync with Gandhian principles. The circular also dropped Goa Statehood Day (May 30) from the list of state government holidays.
When asked if the BJP in Goa was proud that one of its plans of action conceived 12 years back had actually been emulated to a degree by the Prime Minister, state party president Vinay Tendulkar said: "Yes. Goa had tried it too. The party now will take the (Swachh Bharat) programme forward in full swing. We will do it in Goa".


Tendulkar also told IANS that a meeting had been called later this week to discuss the modalities of Modi's programme and decide on ways and means on how best it could be taken forward.

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination(WBJEE) Details-

It is an entrance examination for admission in Government/Private Engineering,Medical colleges located in West Bengal and is  conducted by WBJEEB. Previous year(2013) a total of 1,20,000 students appeared for the exam in 286 centers across the state.

Package of Rs.1.54 crore by Google to IIT Roorkee students

Now turn to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, Google has offered an annual salary package of Rs 1.54 crore to four students. In its placement unit,

about 1,600 students attended the campus interview. About 60 companies have visited the campus today, a quarter of the students had already placed.

"placements have been good so far and we are confident to place 1,200 students before completing the first phase of our placement," said an official of IIT-Roorkee. Recently, two IIT Kanpur students bagged Rs 1.20 crore salary package of Oracle Corporation.
 

"The mix of country multinational companies (MNC's) is becoming increasingly diverse. Previously, a multinational would essentially: an American company. But now, more and more Japanese, Korean, French European companies, German and others are coming on campus, "said a member of the investment committee at IIT-Kanpur.

IIT Kanpur had received offers from Sony, Michelin, Deutsche Bank and Samsung. This year, Samsung has made an offer to 20 students from IIT Kanpur. Compared to last year, Mitsubishi has also increased its offerings of 10 students. On the other hand, IIT Bombay has seen more companies in South Asia are visiting for campus placements. "Until last year, we had nearly five companies. This year we have 15 companies confirming participation, "said an official from the office of entry of IIT-Bombay.

Trend is also visible in IIT-Madras, which has seen recruiters such as Sumitomo Chemical (Japan ), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Sysmex Corporation and Samsung are one, seven, two, and three bids, respectively. In 2012, nearly 175 companies visited IIT Kanpur hiring. This year, 80 companies have already visited the campus. Upon completion of the three courses a day at IIT Madras, 267 tenders were issued. At this institute, the highest package offered was $ 210,000 per year.

 Online puzzle competition named Elementary, is also held during this fest.Many cultural events like Dancing , Debates,Painting, Gaming,Singing,Acting and many more are held during these fest days.


 An annual reunion session organised by the Alumni Association of the college is also held.
 On the final day, a Social Night is held in which artists and bands come and perform in front of a live audience .

Vishwakarma is known as the divine Engineer since the Puranic age. As a mark of reverence he is not only worshiped by the engineering community but also by all other professionals. This festival is celebrated in the month of September. 

On this day all the workers in the workshops and offices worship their tools and instruments in front of Lord Vishwakarma, which are generally used in their profession.



Vishwakarma Puja has been celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm by the students as well as faculty members of JGEC.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering which is popularly known as GATE Exam which is an all India examination that primarily tests the all-inclusive understanding of various undergraduate topics in Engineering and Technology. ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS- Mathematical branch that includes mathematical methods and techniques that are generally employed in Industry and engineering

  • Linear Algebra: Mathematical branch which does study of mathematical process  and their application to solve equations. It include Topics-Matrix Algebra, Eigen values and eigen vectors, System of Linear Equations
  • Calculus: Mathematical branch that studies change in a mathematical manner. It include topics- Theorems of integral calculus, Mean Value Theorem, Evaluation of definite and improper integrals, Maxima and minima, Partial Derivatives, Multiple integrals, Fourier series, directional derivatives, Line, Surface and Volume integrals, Stokes, Gauss and Green’s theorems, Vector Identities.

APPLIED MECHANICS AND DESIGN-This field inspects the reaction of bodies that is solids and fluids or systems of bodies to outer forces.

  • Engineering Mechanics:Helps in detailed examination and forecasting the acceleration and deformation of objects under familiar forces.It include topics- Free body diagrams and equilibrium; virtual work;frames and trusses; kinematics and dynamics of particles and of rigid bodies in plane motion, including impulse and momentum (angular and linear) and energy formulations; impact.
  • Strength of Materials: Subject that deals with the how the objects behave being unaffected by stress and strain.It include topics-Strain  and stress, stress-strain relationship and elastic constants, Mohr’s circle for plane stress and plane strain, shear force and bending moment diagrams; thin cylinders ;bending and shear stresses; torsion of circular shafts; deflection of beams;  Euler’s theory of columns; thermal stresses; strain energy methods.
  • Theory of Machines: Branch of science that deals with the detail analysis of motion considered in relation between the different parts of machine.It include topics- velocity and Displacement and acceleration analysis of plane mechanisms; dynamic analysis of slider-crank mechanism; flywheels; gear trains.
  • Vibrations: Mechanical fact where oscillations occur about an equilibrium point.It include topics-Free and forced vibration of single degree of freedom systems; effect of damping; vibration isolation; critical speeds of shafts, resonance.
  • Design:A detailed proposal to build an object or a system. Design for dynamic and static loading; failure theories; fatigue strength and the S-N diagram;principles of the design of machine elements such as riveted ,bolted  and welded joints, shafts, rolling, spur gears,  and sliding contact bearings, clutches and brakes.
FLUID MECHANICS AND THERMAL SCIENCES- It emphasizes on the perception of significance of various basic features of thermodynamics and heat transfer.
  •  Fluid Mechanics:Branch of physics which analyse fluids and the forces on them. It include topics- Fluid properties; manometry, fluid statics, buoyancy; control-volume analysis of mass, energy and momentum; fluid acceleration; differential equations of momentum and continuity ; Bernoulli’s equation; viscous flow of incompressible fluids; elementary turbulent flow; boundary layer; flow through pipes, head losses in bends, pipes etc.
  • Heat-Transfer:Branch of Thermal engineering that deals with the production,use,to change from one form to another and exchange of thermal and heat energy between physical system.It include topics- Modes of heat transfer; one dimensional heat conduction, electrical analogy, resistance concept ,unsteady heat conduction, fins; dimensionless parameters in free and forced convective heat transfer, various correlations for heat transfer in flow over flat plates and through pipes; thermal boundary layer; effect of turbulence, black and grey surfaces, radiative heat transfer ;shape factors, network analysis; heat exchanger performance, NTU and LMTD  methods.
